February 24: Three killed in Karachi sectarian attacks

Three men, including a teacher at the Iranian cultural centre, were shot dead in suspected sectarian attacks. The teacher, Mohammad Hussain, had been wounded previously by armed robbers in an attack last month. The latest attack took place when he was leaving the hospital after being discharged. A spokesperson for the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen said the victim was Shia and taught Persian at the Iranian cultural centre (Khana-i-Farhang).

In another incident, a motorbike mechanic was shot dead in a drive by shooting. Syed Shahzad Ali Zaidi was killed while working at his shop. His death followed the murder of Syed Sarwar Abbas who was targeted outside a shop near his residence in Orangi Town. The victim was also Shia and worked at a garments factory. Dawn

February 24: Polio worker kidnapped in Awaran, Quetta

Militants kidnapped a polio worker and three Levies personnel after an armed attack on the convoy of the deputy commissioner of Awaran, Rasheed Baloch. Baloch was returning home after supervising an anti-polio campaign when his convoy came under attack. After a pitched gun-battle, the militants managed to escape along with kidnapping a vaccinator and three Levies personnel in an official vehicle. Dawn

February 26: School destroyed in NWA

Unknown persons blew up a school in Miranshah after planting explosives within the school boundary. No injuries were reported but two rooms of the building were left destroyed. The News

February 27: Religious scholars targeted in Karachi

A total of three religious scholars were killed in separate incidents of target killings across Karachi. The prominent Shia religious scholar Professor Taqi Hadi Naqvi was killed a targeted attack in North Nazimabad as he was traveling back to his house.

In a separate incident, an administrator of a religious seminary and his son were shot dead in Gulistan-e-Johar. Four unidentified gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire at 55-year-old Maulana Ali Hasan, who was the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazalur Rehman Group  Sachal union council chief. His 28-year-old Maulana Manzoor was also killed in the attack which took place outside the Madressa Matiul Uloom Rahmania.

February 27: More killed in Karachi sectarian attacks

Six people were killed in suspected sectarian attacks across the city. Five of the victims died in targeted attacks as they were returning from places of worship. The sixth victim was killed while working at his mechanic shop. The News

February 27: Polio team physically abused in Rawalpindi

A two-member polio vaccination team was physically abused by the occupants of a house in Kalar Syedan after they asked them to get their children vaccinated. The team was going house-to-house in the neighbourhood when one family began to quarrel with them before assaulting them. Dawn

March 1: Twin blasts hit polio team in Jamrud, Landikotal

At least 13 people, including 12 security personnel, were killed and 11 others injured when two roadside bombs targeting a polio vaccination team in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency exploded.

The polio team members also came under the fire and took shelter in the nearby buildings. No polio worker was killed, although a child in the vicinity was killed in the attack. Two vehicles belonging to the medical team were also damaged in the explosions. Daily Times
