December 30: Two schools torched in Kurram

Militants set fire to two government-run schools in Kurram agency, leaving both buildings completely destroyed. Security officials in the area responding to the attack managed to engage the perpetrators in a fire-fight, but could not prevent them from escaping. Karachi’s spate of target killings against Shia professionals continued unabated into the new year as a 45-year old paediatrician was shot dead in the city.
