Rapturous welcome for ‘Bronze’ winning street children soccer team

A team of Pakistan’s street children soccer players received a hero’s welcome at Karachi International Airport, after being crowned bronze medalists at FIFA’s Street Child World Cup held in Brazil last week.

Speaking to the gathered reporters, team captain Sameer Ahmed hailed the opportunity to play in Brazil as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experience. Competing for the first time ever in the international tournament, Pakistan hammered title-holders India 13-0 in their first match, before beating Kenya and Mauritius and tying with the United States to top their group. The astounding young team proceeded to beat the US 3-2 on penalties in the third-place playoff. Express Tribune
